The San Antonio Art League & Museum is proud to present the ‘Watermedia from the Permanent Collection’ Exhibit, starting January 4 and running until February 19.
The exhibit includes 55 paintings in watercolor, cassein, collage, acrylic, ink and encaustic, and the paintings range in age from 1934 (the Diego Rivera) to the present day.
The pieces were selected from the SAALM permanent collection of over 600 pieces of art. This collection is expanded yearly in two ways:
SAALM acquires the winning piece (Best of Show) from its annual Juried Exhibition
A donation is made by SAALM's annual Artist of the Year from the Artist of the Year Exhibit.
We schedule exhibits once or twice a year from the Permanent Collection. In addition, SAALM has a gallery displaying paintings from its Davis Collection. That gallery is located on the first floor of the facility and the paintings are periodically rotated.
Some of our most valuable paintings are included in the watermedia exhibit. It includes works by Rivera, Rudolpho Tamayo, Danville Chadbourne, Carl Embry, Michael Frary, Henry Gadbois, Linda Hammond, Billy Keen, Dong Kingman, Amy Freeman Lee, Henry Rayburn, Tom Pressley, Jr, Thom Ricks, Steve Smith, and others.
The Watercolor Gang is represented by seven artists: E. Gordon West, Lee Ricks, Finis Collins, Ivan McDougal, Clay McGaughy, Kuo Yen Ng, and Hal Sims. These artists have traveled at least annually to paint en plein aire and they have exhibited their paintings annually for more than 50 years.
