Andy Thomas

Andy Thomas is the Deputy Director of the American Volkssport Association

Andy Thomas has lived nearly all his life in Texas and is the son of an Air Force master sergeant. He -- with his cat Ava -- lives in the Ridgeview neighborhood near the North Star Mall.

He obtained a bachelor’s degree in journalism from UT-Austin in 1993 and worked at newspapers, including the San Antonio Express-News, until 2009. At that time, he took a new position at the San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind as a contract closeout specialist, supporting Army and DoD agencies. He continues to hold that position. He also pursued a business education and obtained an MBA degree from UTSA in 2017.

Andy went to his first volksmarch in 1999 and got more involved with the organization in the 2000s. For many years now he has written the newsletter for one of the organization's local clubs and he volunteers with some of the local walks and events. He has been secretary of the Texas Volkssport Association since 2018 and In 2021 he was named Deputy Director of the AVA Southwest Region, which includes Texas and New Mexico.
